Jeep Wheels
Jeep wheels are very high quality wheels to begin with. Even the cheapest one, a 16 inch steel wheel is very durable and tough enough to withstand a lot of off road abuse. Their other options are of even higher quality being made from cast aluminum to decrease their weight. Regular cleaning can extend their life for years but many people choose to upgrade their wheels for more style and performance.
Aftermarket jeep wheels are made by many different manufacturers and come in many different sizes, styles and levels or quality. Some of the best wheels are forged alloys of aluminum and magnesium but these are quite expensive. Steel wheels are much more common because of their strength. The size and position of the wheel in relation to the body greatly changes how the vehicle will handle and perform.
One of the best developments for jeep wheels is the bolted rim. Instead of popping the bead of the tire into place as on most tire and wheel set ups the rim is bolted onto the bead of the tire to ensure that the bead never pops out. This is important for four wheel drive vehicles as many drivers lower the air pressure in their tires for off-roading to get better grip. Extremely low pressures give the wheel a wide and flat footprint which gives the vehicle much better traction in slippery terrain.
